New Surgical Learning and Training Environment at Masanga Hospital
A Skills Lab is a specialized learning and training environment within a medical institution where (future) healthcare professionals can practice, develop and test medical-technical and surgical skills in a safe, simulated environment. The goal is to build competencies before performing these actions on real patients.
The practice of basic and advanced skills at Masanga Hospital ranges from training in obstetrics with high quality simulated models for normal delivery and caesarean section and
simple procedures to minor surgical procedures, such as:
Suturing and knotting.
Insertion of infusions and catheters.
Use of surgical instruments.
CPR (Basic and Advanced Life Support).
The training and courses are given under the guidance of experienced skills teachers and are scientifically based. Participants receive immediate feedback through de-briefings after a simulation to analyze and improve their performance.
In conclusion, it is a crucial part of medical education to ensure that healthcare professionals are demonstrably competent before entering clinical practice.
